Can we convince you to holiday without your car?

So many holidaymakers now are thinking about how their travel can impact their carbon footprint.  For most, this means ditching air travel & opting for an increasingly popular holiday in the UK or ‘staycation.’

For those taking the challenge one step further we wanted to share with you how easy it is to plan your holiday at Alde Garden Campsite & go completely car-free!  Here are our top tips for leaving the car at home & having a stress-free, low emissions holiday in our beautiful corner of Suffolk.

Arriving car-free

Train:
Saxmundham station is just 3 miles from here, and is on the London/Ipswich to Lowestoft railway line. To encourage guests to try a car-free holiday, we offer a free taxi to and from Saxmundham station (tent pitch bookings excluded). Please give at least 24 hours’ notice of your train’s arrival times.

Bus:
We have a very good ‘on-demand’ bus service covering a large part of the surrounding area, to connect with existing bus & train services as well as neighbouring towns & villages not served by public transport. The service can pick you up and drop you off anywhere within the area covered, anytime between 7am & 7pm. Bookings must be made in advance (lines open 08.45-16.00) – call 01728 635938 or go to Suffolk On Board for more information. According to one of our guests booking is “incredibly easy, and the customer service is excellent!”.

Taxi:
There are a whole host of good local taxi firms to choose from. Two of our favourites are Hart Cars (01728 602009) and Torrens Cars (07532 044085). PLEASE NOTE – taxis need to be booked well in advance, especially at busy times (school run/evening). Please plan ahead & give the taxi firm as much notice as possible.

By bike:
We are on National Cycle Network route 1, and the Suffolk Coastal Cycle route (Regional Route 41).

Packing for your car-free holiday is even easier with us.  You can travel super-light as our on-site kitchen, facilities & cosy holiday accommodation includes most things you’d need to make your stay a home-from home.  Check out our facilities page for the complete info.
