The Pub

EAST   ANGLIA   CAMRA   PUB   OF   THE   YEAR   2015
IPSWICH & EAST SUFFOLK CAMRA PUB OF THE YEAR 2015 & 2016

Alde Garden is set in the grounds of the Sweffling White Horse – a 200-year old village pub which re-opened it's doors in 2011 after being closed over 8 years.

Lovingly restored by Marie & Mark - with a lot of help from friends and family - the pub reflects the same ethos as the campsite and cottage. The pub is heated entirely by wood - with a woodburning stove in the comfy lounge bar and a lovely old Esse range cooker (with back boiler to heat various radiators) in the public bar. Instead of a bar it has an old-style tap room where locally brewed real ales are served straight from the barrel. The pub also stocks some local spirits, a selection of local or fairtrade organic wines, soft drinks & a small array of speciality spirits.

More of a drinking pub than an eatery - the pub doesn't have a bustling menu of hot food. Instead you can buy hot pies in the winter (heated by wood and served straight from the range cooker in the public bar) and a tasty Ploughman's in the summer made from very good quality local ingredients.

If you're into traditional pub games you won't be disappointed - the pub has a bar billiards table, dartboard, shove ha'penny, bagatelle and a few other treats. There is also a 'ringing the bull' game - a very traditional but now sadly quite rare pub game.

The Sweffling White Horse is open four evenings a week + one lunchtime:

Friday - 7pm to 11pm
Saturday - 7pm to 11pm
Sunday - 12 noon to 3pm
& in the evening - 7pm to 11pm
Monday - 7pm to 11pm

Outside of the above hours, an off-licence service is usually available to holidaymakers from the back door of the pub.

The pub hosts many live music nights and other events - for more information go to www.swefflingwhitehorse.co.uk.

...and another two pubs not far from here:

Just a 10 minute walk (half a mile) from the site is the very lovely White Horse Rendham - a  cosy, old fashioned pub serving a selection of real ales straight from the cask. They also serve great home cooked meals, freshly prepared using locally sourced produce. The Rendham White Horse is open every evening and at the weekends it's also open for lunch.

A tiny bit further afield (2 miles) is the recently re-opened Crown Inn, Great Glemham. This is a lovely pub furnished in traditional style and serving really good food. Opening times & food serving times can be found on the website (below)
